April 5, 2008 - Shed Dormer framing is complete
Jeremy and I were on our own this week. Some people actually have other things to do with their free time, which I can respect, even if those things seem kinda silly to some of us me. When we left last week, the back of the middle unit looked like this (no shed dormer!):
When we arrived this Saturday, it looked like this (shed dormer!):
We could not believe that a shed dormer could be framed out in a week. It is truly amazing how fast this project is going. Here is what the inside looked like before adding the shed dormer:
Here is what it looks like after adding shed dormer framing:
The bedrooms feel so much larger now. And they will both have beautiful water views. The windows should be arriving this week, so hopefully next weekend we'll be able to see what the water view will actually look like.Jeremy and I mostly did clean up this week. Our contractor left us large piles of roofing shingles and scrap wood to haul to the dumpsters. This was Jeremy's wood pile:
But, he managed to get it all removed.
My project was to complete demolition of the West bathroom that we are remodeling. Some drywall around where the tub used to be needed to be removed. But the big project was to get the old linoleum removed because underneath are beautiful hardwood floors. Here's a picture of what I started with:
It took a few hours, but I did manage to get all of the linoleum removed and most of the glue backing as well. We plan to get a floor guy in in the next couple of days to at least sand the floors down before the fixtures go in within the next week. These floors are going to look amazing.
Then to end the day, we had to clean up all of the roofing shingles that Jim Dance had removed. Roofing shingles are a lot heavier than they look.
We were pretty wiped out, but we were able to finish up before we had to leave to get the kids.
Next week we will be tackling removal of the ugly floors covering the middle kitchen and living room. Underneath several layers are beautiful hardwoods like in the bathroom in the pictures above. Also, we will be removing wallpaper around the house. We have found up to 6 layers in some places. Should be lots of fun! We will provide Paper Tigers and Garden Sprayers to anyone who wants to partake in the fun! Also, we'll probably rent a few wallpaper steamers to make things easier. Hope to see you there!
