Pemaquid News: Our project appeared in the Lincoln County News
The August 28th, 2008 edition of local Pemaquid News, The Lincoln County News contained an article about our project!
If you can't read it, here is the text:Heron Cove Guest House Renovation Completed
The renovation of the Heron Cove Guest House at Pemaquid Beach has been successfully completed.
The
house, also known as the “Ed Lewis Farmhouse” was sold by the Heron
Cove Association members earlier this year. The house had fallen into
disrepair and required extensive renovations to all three condominium
units.
The house was purchased in February by Laura and Jeremy
Clough (Boston University grad) and Dan Hunter (Boston College grad).
They formed “Barking Eagle, LLC” as a way to bring the two rivals
together under a common name. Despite the storied rivalry, these two
grads figured out a way to work together and achieved great success on
the project.
Several things were learned during renovation including:
• Clapboards are easier than shingles to remove, except when they are "double-nailed".
• Having a contractor you can trust makes all the difference.
• People can be movtivated to do an entire days’ work with the promise of pizza and locally brewed beer.
• A cast iron tub is much easier to get downstairs after it has been hit with a large hammer.
• Exterior trim painting is much, much harder than interior painting.
• Antique homes seem to always have beautiful wood floors under all that carpet and linoleum.
• How to make a homemade wet saw when the borrowed one doesn’t work.
• A full size box spring can be cut in half to get it up some narrow stairs.
The
project has been documented fully, with weekly updates and photos on
the owner’s blog pages at: http://www.PemaquidBeach.com.
One of the condominium units is now for sale and has been listed with Sigrid and Associates in Damariscotta.
