Pemaquid Maine: Things to do in the area
This page will grow as we explore our new neighborhood of Pemaquid
Maine, but we wanted to start listing a few of our favorite places in
the area. Beach:
Pemaquid Beach

A
quarter-mile walk from the house is Pemaquid Beach. It is owned by the
town of Bristol, has ample parking, and the fee charged is $4.00 per
person. There is a bathhouse, restrooms, a snack bar and tables. Pemaquid Beach also contains the Beachcombers' Rest Nature Center
which according to their website features interpretive beach walks and
hands-on activities, including visits from a marine animal touch tank,
art classes, tide pool explorations, and more. And we just read in the
local Lincoln County News that they are building a butterfly garden! Grocery Store:
C E Reilly & Son 2576 Bristol Rd New Harbor, ME 04554 (207) 677-2321
About
a mile from the house, this store is everything we could have asked for
in a local grocer. It has an old-timey feel with hard wood floors and
two check out aisles. It is fully stocked with a good selection of
fresh produce, fresh baked goods, a wonderful deli counter, local
bottled micro brews, and some of the best pizza around. We have relied
heavily on Reilly's the first few months of our renovations, not only
for pizza and beverages to keep our crew going, but also for use of
their bathroom before our water was turned on. (Yes, we had a
port-o-potty but some of us didn't always feel like using it.) They
were always extremely friendly and never gave us even a hint of
attitude about that. This store actually helped us make a
decision to buy the house. One of my worries when looking into where we
would buy waterfront property was that we would be on a lake somewhere
in the middle of nowhere and would have to drive 10 miles to buy milk.
When we found Reilly's here in Pemaquid Maine, it definitely increased
the value of the house in our eyes, to have a store like this within
walking distance. Restaurants

their buns. The Cupboard is walking distance from the house.
