May 23rd - 26th, 2008 - Paint a Wall or Two?
When we arrived Friday evening, we were so excited to see that the siding in the back was completely done, including the details around the gables. Also the two sides, Lupine and West were complete as well:
After the kids were tucked into bed, we spent the evening cleaning up the two bedrooms. We vacuumed, pulled up the tape, and cleaned the floors. We also applied the Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Refinisher which does a really nice job shining hardwood floors. It's not a replacement for refinishing, but if floors don't quite need refinishing yet, but could use a layer of protection, this stuff works great. Here's the after picture of the shiny hardwood floors:
Saturday, I took responsibility for the kids, while Jeremy, Dan, Jane and Wendell painted a wall, or several. They did an amazing job finishing up the painting that was left to do.
Wendell was even able to start the wallpaper removal in the kitchen.
While the kids were taking their afternoon nap, I was able to stage the bedrooms a little bit.
Saturday night we cleaned up the hallways, removed the tarps and painters tape and scrubbed the floors. The hallway is now looking good.
Sunday was kind of a lost day. We had the big Heron Cove Association Annual Meeting. It was great to meet everyone that was there and see how great everyone gets along with each other. After the meeting there was a cookout by the water. I didn't want to leave, but after about an hour, I had to head back to get something done. Dan, Jane and I all worked for the rest of the afternoon, doing touch ups, wallpaper removal, and window scraping. Sunday night Jeremy and I finished removing the wallpaper and the linoleum on the walls (who does that?) in the kitchen. It was getting dark, and we were getting tired, but we were able to get it done.
Monday morning, I sanded down the walls and applied the Gardz wallpaper sizing.
Here's the before:
Here's what it looks like when it's applied.
We had the pleasure of having guests for lunch, Jeremy's parents and grandparents stopped by. We took them to The Contented Sole, which is about .2 miles from the house!
After that, I took the kids home and Jeremy stayed to finish the kitchen. He was able to get the walls skim coated, and boy it already looks so much better!
Next weekend, we're on our own. Literally. No helping hands, no babysitters. There's a lot left to do in the West Wing. Jim is going to have the doorways drywalled over, so there will be a lot to sand, prime and paint. It should be fun!Posted by Laura 5/29/08 9:18 PM Return to Pemaquid Beach home page from Paint a Wall or Two
