July 18th - July 20th, 2008 - Hosting a Maine Lobster Bake

My friends Heather and Pat, and their boys, Hank and Jonas camped their way to Maine this week and arrived on Thursday night. I took Friday off and we explored Portland. Here is a picture of them at Portland Head Light.

Luckily, we were in Portland having lunch and we missed the storm in Gorham that did so much damage, that apparently had 70 MPH winds.

On Friday evening, we headed up to Pemaquid and settled in. On Saturday, Dan and Jane checked out the local Lion's Club auction and bought tons of furniture for Equinox. They bought us two old Church pews for Lupine that really fit in well. I wish I had remembered to get pictures. We are using one downstairs near the front door, and the other one is upstairs in the hallway. I love them.

Equinox was the focus of the day for those who had to work on it. I was able to play tour guide, and we took all of the kids to Pemaquid Beach. The water was shockingly warm, and the waves were big. Everyone had a great time. The bigger kids, and Heather and Pat went swimming. The little kids and I stayed on the beach but got pushed over by big waves now and again.

The kids seemed to have bonded, and really got along well.

Saturday afternoon, Heather and I went to the Pemaquid Lobster Co-op to purchase lobsters for everyone. Dan and his family, including his dad and sister from New Hampshire were going to join us for a Maine Lobster Bake. I wanted to make sure my friends had the full Maine experience during their stay.

I was a little worried about squeezing in 15 people, but it turns out we had plenty of room!

On Sunday we went to Pemaquid Lighthouse.

My kids just wanted to climb on the rocks.

We went to Shaws for lunch, and then after packing up they left to continue their trip to Acadia before heading back to St. Louis. It was a wonderful visit and I was sad to see them go.

On a happier note, the upstairs of Equinox (except the bathroom) is done! Here are pictures of the painted and clean rooms. They look amazing. Hopefully next week we can get some beds up there and get them staged.

Here are pictures of the completed Equinox deck and the view from the deck.

And here are pictures of the completed West deck and its (very similar) view.

Lupine is rented beginning Monday, so Jeremy will be going up on his own. Dan and Jane will be there with him. They should all be able to finish up painting downstairs and hopefully begin staging the rooms. West is rented beginning August 2nd, so we're really nearing the end of the project. It's too bad we weren't able to have the big celebratory party we had wanted to hold. Maybe we can do it at the end of September instead.
