April 16th, 2008 - General Contractor Management leads to a Day at the Beach
My mom is in town helping with the kids, so I took today off so we could drive up the coast and see the ocean and other pretty stuff. However, our contractor, Jim Dance had a lot of questions that were starting to pile up. We do weekly phone calls with him, but now that we are getting down to the details, he really liked the idea that I could possibly stop by since I had the day off, and answer some questions in person. I liked the idea too, since we don't get to be there during the week when the action is happening. I trust Jim and Larry completely, so it's not a trust thing, it's more of a curiosity to see what it's like there when things are being built (as opposed to when we are just demolishing or cleaning up on weekends). So I made sure my mom was okay with us stopping by on our day out. I thought we'd be there at most for 45 minutes. First we stopped for a late breakfast at Bintliff's in Portland. Yum. I highly recommend it. Jeremy and I used to go there more often before kids, but it's kind of a tight squeeze for a high chair so we haven't been to eat there in quite a long time. After our brunch, we headed up to the house. We arrived to see the driveway full of trucks and vans. What a beautiful sight!
Jim had accumulated many, many questions. All good ones, so I was thrilled that I was able to go up on a weekday to answer all of them. The plumber, Dave Grindell, was also there, so I was able to answer specific plumbing questions as well. However, we ended up staying three hours. Sorry Mom! There were just so many things to discuss, some of which involved: Equinox's kitchen placement Equinox's kitchen fixtures Equinox's kitchen windows Equinox's bathroom fixtures Equinox's water heater location West's shower surround Exterior trim painting and/or replacement of rotted trim Lupine's kitchen Lupine's bathroom Lupine's heating system West's heating system Equinox's demolition left to do (not much!)
So it was a good day. We finally left around 3, and decided to go eat again! We went to the Damariscotta River Grill or "the Grill" as it is commonly referred. We shared a couple of appitizers of Artichoke Fondue and Maine Shrimp Bruscetta. Yum again. Then we took a nice drive down to Bailey Island, and Land's End. (The place, not the store.) I learned that my mom loves to hunt for sea glass just as much as I do, so we both immediately were head down hunting for the elusive blue glass. We didn't find any of that but we both finished with handfuls of green, brown and white pieces!
