July 29th - 30th - Construction Completion!
Last week, we forgot to bring a camera, so there won't be a post. Without pictures, I cannot tell an interesting story. This week, I went up to meet a business associate of mine who is renting Lupine and to finish up a couple of items on our list for the West Wing. Fortunately, it enabled me to be up there for Jim and Larry's last day on Wednesday. I arrived on Tuesday evening to see that Jim had completed all of the wood patching on Equinox's floor. In some spots I had to really think about where the hole used to be, so I could look for the patch, it wasn't obvious.
I am so impressed. I think the floors are going to look amazing when they are refinished this week.I also noticed the stairs had been painted. Dan and Jane finished this large project on Sunday night. I was expecting a sage green, but it's much more minty. I couldn't get a good picture of the color, because my flash changed the color of the walls around the stairs to look pink, and they are not pink, they are Behr Swiss Coffee.
My mission for Tuesday night was to try to do something with this old floor patch in West.
But first, I really wanted to go enjoy the sunset. We've been working on the house so much, I never take the time to enjoy the location. I walked down to the dock and sat on the float for a while and just enjoyed the view. The sun was setting over the cove and the birds were out feasting on bugs. There were people canoeing and fishing. And on the float, I had 4 bars of cell service! It was truly a magical moment.
I had pretty good luck with the floor. We had to guess on what stain to apply. I used one coat of Polyshades so it would have a little bit of color and a little bit of shine. It wasn't an exact match but it was certainly better than what it looked like before.
On Wednesday, I awoke bright and early to the sound of hammers and saws. Jim was finishing up the counter top in Equinox, while Larry was completing any remaining trim that was left to do.
Jim said he'd be done by mid-day and that Greg Holmes was coming around 9 AM to start on the floors. I left for the day to attend to business and when I returned the floors looked amazing.
Oh, and check out the new kitchen area in Equinox...it is stunning.
Greg is going to finish sanding them tomorrow and then put the polyurethane on them. We should be able to walk on them by Saturday so we can finish staging the unit for renters the following weekend. We're almost done! Posted by Laura 8/12/08 7:15 PM return to Pemaquid Beach home page from Construction Completion
