April 27th, 2008 - Childproofing Vacation Home and Wide Plank Pine
Jeremy's parents were kind enough today to trade some demolition work on their house for a few hours of babysitting, so we were able to run over to the house to get it ready for next weekend. The water gets turned on May 1st so we're planning on spending the next several weekends up at the house. Now, if it was just us, there'd be nothing to worry about, it would be like camping. However, with an almost two-year-old and a three-year-old, well we have to look at if with completely different eyes, those looking at childproofing. We first had to move all the pine boards we had stashed upstairs that came off of the paneled wall of the living room. Then we had to move all of the old books into the closet. They used to be on the shelves next to the fireplace, but I lugged them upstairs one day to keep them safe. Luckily they all fit into one of the bedroom closets. The upstairs of Lupine is now officially ready for occupancy! Childproofing is complete! Here are pictures of the bedrooms after I made the beds.
I was also really excited to see our kitchen sink on its new frame. The kitchen sink was from Equinox, and it was supposed to stay there, but with the addition of the half-bath it was just too big for that kitchen. It looked really out of place.
So Lupine ended up with the sink, since the new kitchen area is big enough for this six-foot sink. Here is what it now looks like with the base for it framed out.
We found some old wide plank pine boards in our year-round home, which is over 200 years old. They were in our attic, and we needed to remove them because we want to insulate our attic better. We asked Jim Dance if he could do anything with them, and he said he could easily make our cabinet from them. So we brought them up, and he's going to build the base cabinet from the wide plank pine boards this year. Here's a picture of the stack of wide plank pine boards. The one on top is wide enough to cover the entire side of the base cabinet all by itself.
We'll be up there this weekend beginning Friday night. We hope to finish the wallpaper removal and get a good start on mudding and sanding the drywall.Posted by Laura 4/29/08 10:31 PM Return to Pemaquid Beach home page from Childproofing and Wide Plank Pine
